It Takes a Village – Patrons come together to pledge support for new HSHPE Centre

BELLEVILLE – HSHPE’S capital campaign received a big boost today from a group of supporters representing many different facets of our community.

The group, which came together at the site of the new Centre at 34 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, included Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk, as well as corporate and individual donors.

Mayor Panciuk presented a cheque from the City of Belleville for $50,000. This is the fourth annual payment of an 8-year pledge the City made to the building of the new Animal Care and Adoption Centre in 2019.

“The City of Belleville is proud to support this much-needed and important new facility,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “As we have seen today, it truly does take a village. This project is a testament to that and our community’s great compassion for our animals. It is wonderful to see this new building finally coming to fruition and we are so thankful to all of staff, volunteers and community members who have made it possible.”

Phil Chalmers, President of CDS (Cobourg Development Systems) of Belleville was on hand with a generous corporate donation of $25,000 to the “It Takes Heart” Campaign. An animal-lover and HSHPE supporter, Chalmers has personally adopted a number of dogs from the shelter over the years.

Lola Reid Allin joined the group to present a personal donation. She and her husband Dr. Jeff Allin have pledged to contribute $25,000 to the realization of the new Centre, set to be completed in June 2022. The Allins have adopted several companion animals from HSHPE and continue to be advocates for the well-being of all animals.

HSHPE Chair Donna Endicott was also pleased to welcome long time volunteers Al and Tracey Bunnett to “the village”.  The couple are devoted supporters of HSHPE who recently increased their financial contribution from $10,000 to $25,000. This donation was just the latest in the long history of their support for HSHPE. Al has been pivotal in the building project to date and has been spearheading the Building Committee, while Tracey continues to lend her fundraising expertise as Chair of HSHPE’s fundraising committee.

“I commend these donors and their commitment to support animal welfare in our community and I urge other families and corporations to do the same,” remarked Greg Sudds, Chair of the It Takes Heart Capital Campaign.
