Happy Tails 🐱

Celine was our awesome office cat for a few years here at QHS. Her adoptive Mom reached out to us, as they are celebrating their 3-year anniversary together! She is trained to “brush her teeth” and comes when called to get her dental treats. We are so happy to see her being loved so much.

 

 

February 2020 Stats

In February we had 115 animals come into our care, 97 of those were cats, 12 dogs, 3 small animals, 2 birds and 1 pig. We adopted out 57 cats, 12 dogs and 3 rabbits. We returned 1 cat and 2 dogs to their owners. We also transferred out 40 animals to other like minded shelters and rescue organizations. The rest of the animals will stay with us until they find their furever home.

Since we’ve further developed our Volunteer Program, and implemented volunteer Orientation, our numbers of active Volunteers within the shelter has greatly increased! During the month of February, volunteers have contributed a combined total of 210 hours of their time. Volunteers provide an invaluable service to the Quinte Humane Society, and the animals we care for. The staff and animals of the QHS appreciate everyone willing to dedicate their time to keeping our animals happy and healthy while they patiently wait for their forever families!

This month I would like to highlight a very active volunteer with the Quinte Humane Society. Edison is a junior volunteer with the QHS and since attending orientation in January has proven to be a very reliable young man. We can count on Edison every Saturday morning to assist in Cat Care. We asked Edison a few questions about volunteering at QHS.

Q: What is your favourite part of volunteering at QHS?

A: My favourite part is petting the cats, watching them be silly and I like when they get extremely excited when we get to their cage. I’m happy when I come in on Saturday and there are cats who have been adopted.

Q: How does volunteering with us make a difference in the animals lives?

A: If the enclosure is cleaner it will be more likely they’ll be adopted. If they are shy they will become more social by hanging out with us and they won’t be as afraid of humans.  

February Events

We celebrated National Cupcake Day in February, and it was a success. We had many events out in the community, in businesses, in our amazing, supportive vet clinics, as well as at the shelter itself. Approximately $2,600 was raised to help us, help the animals that we care for all year long. We couldn’t be successful in events like these without the support of the community. We wanted to thank each and every person who held an event, purchased a cupcake or made a donation towards Cupcake Day.
