Quinte West Council visits HSHPE site for tour and to present cheque

BELLEVILLE – City of Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison and a number of Quinte West Councillors toured the building site of the new HSHPE’s Animal Care and Community Education Centre on Thursday, April 14, 2022 and presented the last installment in their four-year, $250,000 pledge for the new shelter.

The Centre, currently under construction at 34 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road in Belleville, is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022 and will serve the communities of Belleville, Quinte West, Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

"We are happy to support the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward build their new facility," says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. "They do important work in our community, and they've needed a new facility for some time now."

The City of Quinte West made its $250,000 pledge in 2019, to be paid in four annual installments of $62,500. The payment made on Thursday represents the last of the annual payments. The City has also provided a loan guarantee of up to $1 million available, at an annual interest rate of 0.78%, to be repaid within 10 years.

“Without the support of the cities of Quinte West and Belleville, the new Centre would still be in a conceptual stage.” commented Greg Sudds, Chair, It Takes Heart Campaign Committee. “We are extremely grateful to both city councils for their visionary leadership.”
