Animal Control

Did you know that the Quinte Humane Society is the pound facility for Belleville, Quinte West, Tweed, Mohawk, Stirling, Tyendinaga and Trent Hills?
Pierce Animal Control (613-966-4483) holds the pound contract for these areas except Tweed, which is held by Fernley Davis (613-478-3547). This means that any dogs picked up in these areas come to us for housing while waiting for their owners to come claim them.

Additionally, there is a bylaw in Belleville and Quinte West for stray cats, which means that any cat or dog running at large in these areas can be picked up by Animal Control and brought into our care. There is an impound fee set by the Cities to claim any stray brought in by animal control, a dog license will be required to be purchased upon pickup and proof of ownership is required so we can ensure the animal is going back to its rightful owner.

We always encourage any questions about animal control be brought up to your municipality, or call us at the shelter at 613-968-4673.
