Barn Cat Program

The Quinte Humane Society recognizes that not all cats are suitable for indoor living. We operate a Barn Cat program where rural residents with an adequate space and shelter can adopt a semi-feral cat. We require that the new home be able to provide them with a warm dry shelter such as a barn or shop type setting and in return it could help control rodent populations. The adopter is also required to provide all the necessities for the cat such as food, insulated shelter, water, regular vet care, love and attention, and in return the shelter will waive the adoption fee for qualified farm adopters. All cats that are suitable for this program will be up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, and be spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Have a large suitable area? You can adopt multiple barn cats through this program. Staff will also provide you with some useful tips to help your new barn cats adjust to their new environment.

This program is an essential way to provide an opportunity for semi-feral cats to have a happy, meaningful life in surroundings suited to their personalities. These cats are not available for residential adoptions as they are not suited to an indoor social lifestyle.
