Finches

Right now Quinte Humane Society has six finches in our care. Most Finch species are less than 4 inches in length from the beak to the end of the tail feathers, and many weigh less than one ounce. They are very cute little birds who have beautiful markings. While Finches vocalize as much or more as other types of commonly kept pet birds, they have tiny voices that do not carry as far as those of larger birds, like parrots. For this reason, Finches are a great choice for bird lovers who live in apartments or condos. It is said that the soft vocalizations from finches can be very soothing to their owners. Finches are social birds and enjoy living with other finches. They are not big fans of human contact and much prefer to be left alone in their cages as being handled too much can cause them stress. They love their cages and can often be seen fluttering around and prancing along the bars of the cages.

Quinte Humane Society is looking for a home who has experience in the care of finches, or someone who is willing to do some research into caring for them.

They must go in at least pairs. We have them separated into 2 groups, one group of 4 and one group of 2 zebra finches. They can be adopted with their cages. The cost of adoption for the finches is $50.00 per cage, this includes the cage and the birds.

If you are interested in adopting the finches, you can also call the shelter at 613-968-4673.

Items needed: Clorox bleach, infant pedialyte & Q-tips.
