Lucky is a 3-year-old American Bulldog mix who came into the care of HSHPE as a stray through animal control and was not claimed. He has since been neutered and now this big goofball is ready to find his new furever family.
His heart is as big as his body. This boy is the most affectionate dog you’ll find. He loves people. Lucky comes right to the front of the cage looking to interact with anyone who enters the room. He loves to be loved and thinks he is a lap dog. If you sit down, he will try to join you on your lap, despite his extra large size. There’s nothing better to Lucky then a good scratch, he will lean into you and when you stop, he will look into your soul with his big, sad eyes begging you for more!
Surprisingly, Lucky is an incredible walker. He does not pull and will walk right beside while you take your stroll. He has quickly become a favourite amongst the volunteer dog walkers. He is a smart boy who knows how to sit on command and staff has been working on shake a paw as well. He shows lots of potential to learn new things. Lucky also likes toys. He gets very excited about them and will play with whatever you throw him. He should be given toys that are large as well as tough, although he is not purposely destructive with them.
Lucky is good with other dogs. He is always wagging his tail at the other dogs as they go by him and doesn’t bark at them. If there is a dog in the new home, or one that will be visiting frequently, a meet and greet is mandatory prior to adoption. We have not done any cat testing at this time, but one can be arranged if a feline is in the potential new home.
Due to his size, we are recommending that Lucky goes to a home with adults only, or children older then 10 years. He would do better in a house than an apartment.
Lucky is currently eating a limited ingredient food that can be purchased at your local pet store. He should remain on this type of food in his new home.
